LeELLE SLIFER of Dallas TX, tells nearly 3,000 attendees at the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas' October 7th Community Commemoration about her aunt, Kinneret Gat, whose last act of defiance during the Hamas attack on Kibbutz Be'eri was to stick out her tongue at them - before they shot her dead.
Ms Slifer lives in Dallas, but her family goes back many generations in Israel. Specifically, the Carmel Gat family from Kibbutz Be'eri. She spoke of many summers spent visiting her family on Be'eri.
Ms Kinneret's daughter Carmel Gat and daughter-in-law Yaden Roman-Gat, who were visiting Kinneret and her husband Eshel for the Simhat Torah holiday, were both kidnapped that day. Yarden was released on November 29 as part of a Qatari-brokered cease-fire deal which saw the release of 105 civilian captives.
Carmel was murdered by Hamas in captivity and her body retrieved in September 2024. Kinneret's son, Alon, and his three-year-old daughter, Geffen, were also seized by terrorists, but were able to escape their captors and remained free.
