On Saturday, October 5, Dallas Fire-Rescue (DFR) units were assigned to a 911 call for a structure fire at an abandoned church at 8350 Forest Lane.
When firefighters arrived at the boarded up structure, they were confronted with heavy smoke and fire coming from the back of the building.
While initial attempts were made at an interior attack, the fire conditions quickly escalated and forced firefighters to assume a defensive posture. Second (for the defensive shift) and third alarm (manpower) responses were dispatched to the incident, resulting in approximately 45-50 firefighters on location to mitigate the situation.
The incident is still ongoing, but there have been no injuries reported in association with this incident.
Due to the building itself being owned by Dallas County, DFR will not be investigating the fire. However, investigators will pass along their observations and findings to the Dallas County Fire Marshal so they can potentially determine a cause.
