The Dallas Black Dance Theatre (DBDT) fired all 11 members of the troupe in May 2024. The dancers allege they were fired after organizing a union to demand better working conditions, while the DBDT claims they violated their contracts by posting an unauthorized video. With the support of the American Guild of Musical Artists, the dancers and their supporters have been picketing DBDT events at the Moody Performance Hall and other venues during the course of the coming season.
